I looked into an unrelated upgrade some time ago, and glibc-2.2 was one
of the required changes- but changing that broke *everything* else.  If
you have to use glibc-2.2, you'll probably have to bring the whole
system up to RH7.  Most of the core system software relies on shared
libs from glibc.
