The Compaq Tru64 UNIX IPv6 team is pleased to announce the availability of the Mozilla web browser with modifications for use on the IPv6 Early Adopters Kit (EAK) version X7.0 for Tru64 UNIX V5.0. This kit is made available for early adopters who wish to experiment with a web browser over IPv6. This software has numerous known problems unrelated to changes made by Compaq and should not be used on production systems. Details are provided in the kit's README file. This software is made available on an "AS IS" basis, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, either express or implied. It is not officially supported by Compaq Computer Corporation. Mozilla is a generic name for web browsers derived from the Netscape Navigator source code. For more information on Mozilla, see the Mozilla web page at http://www.mozilla.org/. The Mozilla software is subject to the Netscape Public License Version 1.0 (the "License"); you may not use the software except in compliance with the License. You may obtain a copy of the License at http://www.mozilla.org/NPL/. This version of Mozilla was derived from the June 3, 1998 Mozilla source snapshot released by mozilla.org. Instructions on where to obtain the original snapshot and how to build this version of the browser from source code are provided in the kit's README file. Changes made by Compaq Computer Corporation to the Mozilla software include: o Use of the IPv6 Basic API as defined in RFC 2553 and provided in Compaq's IPv6 Early Adopters Kit version X7.0 for Tru64 UNIX V5.0. o Implementation FTP data connections as defined in RFC 2428 for operation over IPv6. If the FTP server rejects RFC 2428 style connections, Mozilla falls back to RFC 1639 style connections. A patch file containing all the source code changes made by Compaq along with more detailed documentation of the changes is provided with this kit. This kit may be installed in an unprivileged user account. Copy following file to a temporary directory on your system. ipv6_www_browser_X7.0.tar.gz Unpack the kit and copy the Mozilla image to your binary file directory. # cat ipv6_www_browser_X7.0.tar.gz | gunzip | tar -xvf - # cp mozilla ~/bin Exit any older versions of the Netscape browser you have running and back up your current Netscape configuration files. We do not know what changes this version makes to your configuration files. # cd ~ # tar -cvf .netscape.tar .netscape Run the Mozilla image. # ~/bin/mozilla You can restore the original browser configuration files with the following command if necessary. # cd ~ # rm -R .netscape # tar -xvf .netscape.tar We would appreciate any and all feedback about features, bugs, or wishlist items, but we may not be able to respond to every mail.
