denoting IPv6 addresses and ports

Uh, how is this 'right' solution any different from the "we do it this way
for IPv4, so let's also do it this way for IPv6" mentality?  And does it
make the task at hand any easier?  What if you're on a system where you
don't have administrative write access to the hosts table?
