Leisure

Much of the (sparse) spare time I have left goes down the drain on the projects and music, though I am a listener and no guitarmaster myself unfortunately. I am also to be found on IRC which provides a rather odd form of leisure too in combination with useful communications on what to do when and where and of course project related discussions etc. I can usually be found on IRCNet where my irc-client boasting the nick 'jeroen' can be found dormant, wake me up by employing the /query trick if you really need to if I am /away then irssi will nicely retain your message. Nicks that my client doesn't know are ignored. Thus one can better use email to be sure that it reaches me.

Photography

I own a Canon Powershot A500 and a Nikon d60 + 18-55mm DX VR. The first I use for taking random snapshots, for instance during ski-trips and other places where the d60 is a bit bulky, and I will generally have that camera either in my bag or in some pocket somewhere. The d60 is really for going out on a photo tour where the quality of the picture counts. Do note that I won't even call myself an amateur, I take pix just because I can and because I have fun doing so. See the Gallery for the results.

Music

My musical taste is quite broad, it depends mostly on my mood if I hit next or not for a certain song as can be seen on Last.fm. It is not uncommon that some '60's, '70's or '80's comes through the mix. I try to go to as many gigs and partys as possible. The Unfix.org Agenda contains a list of gigs I will visit along with the scanned in concert tickets when I don't forget to do that. And check the Gallery for music related pictures. In Switzerland I try to frequent Divus Modus organized parties. In the Netherlands I like to go to parties organised by Medusa, for instance her exteremely nice Bal du Masque parties which are a lot of fun, see the gallery on the site and my picture collection for snapshots of the party. Following is a list of links to the bands I also like quite a lot.

The bold items are the ones that appear almost always on my playlist, the others will be there near-always.

Books

I am not a bookworm, but I do enjoy to read while in transit, that usually means while getting from A to B using the train or other public transports likes trams and planes. In my opinion books should be read in language that the author wrote them in, thus I choose only english literature and not the Dutch translations of those books. Reading a translated book simply looses the essence of what the original author was telling in his/her (or both like with Nicci French) story. Another form of literature that I used to read a lot is the german C'T (Computer und Technik) which IMHO is the only computer orientated magazine with some really interresting content. What is cool though is that my name popped up in the magazine and on their site already a couple of times because of SixXS related articles. One of my habits is to complete a complete series of an author, then moving on to the next. Following is a partial list of books that I once read, these are the ones I liked, thus there are quite a few more. (in alphabetical order :)

Movies

I won't even start listing movies though, there are a lot of good ones out there. A typical movie I like though is one where one can't guess the clue of the movie till one actually comes to the part where they explain it; Fight Club, Arlington Road and The Prestige come to mind. But I don't restrict a good movie to only that. Movies are there to entertain one, which makes the available choice much broader, especially considering the fact that I also like cheesy movies and of course Monty Python.

TV

Unless I found one of these devices at a friends or a public place I won't see them. I see enough screens due to laptop usage already and TV series simply are not catchy enough to keep me coming back to them. There are a few exceptions though, e.g. Dexter.
